Right, so we have been having a smallish discussion amongst the officers whether it's best to play on a PVE server or PVP server.
I have reasons to believe that a PVE server might prove to be more enjoyable.

First off, the PVP server in AoC is a so called FFA PvP server. This means that whenever you are outside a town and in the wilderness any other player (or if your unlucky, group of players), may kill you. Heck, if you're really unlucky they might even camp kill you, killing you 10 times in a row. They might even be a higher level than you which makes resistance futile.
However, I'm not all against this kind of system. It works in WoW, but I think that is more because there you always have 2 opposing factions, or teams if you want, that can fight each other. Here there is no such one team vs another team, but rather mayhem.

Now, to the difference of a PvP server and a PvE server - it's not that many.
To clearify, you can do PvP on both server-types. The only difference is that the pvp on a PvE server will be more focused and less random in the sense that its limited to just one FFA zone, namely the Border Kingdoms. To simplify; PvP server means all the "kingdoms" are FFA PVP, whereas in a PvE server it's just one zone.
All the other PvP aspects of the game with sieges, pvp mini-games such as capture the flag etc. are available on both server-types.

Funcom does expect that more players will be interested in playing on the PvE server, hence it being that many PvE servers as opposed to PvP servers. The PvP servers are a rather new idea in the sense of gameplay and can be seen as an alternative for those who are specially interested in "annoying other people". The PvE servers is more as Age of Conan was visioned and designed in terms of gameplay.

As a last addition I'd like to say that we as a guild are going to be leveling up in those early stages - at least untill we reach level 40 and can start organizing the guild and start thinking about City Building and PvP.
In other words, some random kid who kills me while I'm trying to level up will just be a bump in the road toward higher levels.

A side note can be that people reckon that the PvP servers will be filled up with less mature players and WoW-kids.

Now, we have not made a final decision upon the matter yet and would like to hear your opinions. Discuss!

I guess an Assassin on a PVE server can still cause enough Carnage

1 day 1 hour and 42 minutes to lift off!

We'll need to specify which particular server so we all jump on the same one.

yer so as duckee says we are discussing the matter and look forward to imput from all members old and new.

My Thoughts.

PVP is something we will totally do and in the main form of PVP sieges which is where I believe the real and most enjoyable PVP action will be.

I am also sure as a guild we will take many a strole into the border kingdoms to go hunt some rival guilds down and I feel we will find more action in border kingdom then just picking a random quest area to hunt people down.

Lastly I feel there is nothing worse then being ganked whilst questing and of corse pve server would solve this. I like a good clean pvp fight whilst questing but not 2v1 3v1 etc.

Pretty much what you said hanky. PVP will be much better and even if you dont want too at least you got the choice. I would love to take on rival guilds and attack there kingdoms while defending ours.

Really uncertain about this, had my heart set on a PVP server though I haven't really looked in to what a PVE server would mean.

I'll go wherever you decide at the end of the day, it's just a game

PvE would be good for many reasons such as faster queues for Mini-games if no1 is world pvping it means more chance of gettin into MG quicker not to mention that world pvp (not sieges) will ruin peoples K ratio for PvP im up for a PvE server as its easier to lvl and prob more fun to PvP on.

Okay, I've become accustomed to the idea now, easier levelling and nein ganking/children.

Any ideas on a server if we are definitely going pve?

Sorry guys, I'm not going on a PvE server. That's against my principles.

It's just that I've always rolled on a PvP server no matter what game i've been playing.

It just feels right for me. But hell...maybe time for a change?
I know my mates will appreciate that I roll on a PvE, cause they'll start later and will mostly get burned on a PvP server.

I just like the freedom on a PvP server, If I feel for some world pvp -- I just go out on a killing spree, I know I will miss that so much.

But yeah, I'll think about it

You can still do that killing spree in the Border Kingdoms!
Ye, think about it.

I think its evident that we will probably be rolling on a PvE server by now.
We will make a poll about which one when Hank comes back later tonight.
